The Spanish Program offered at ACS has different levels, each of which is specifically designed to meet the students’ needs. The Spanish department also offers a semester of intensive Spanish combining Spanish culture and history.

Spanish I “Just Talking”

Curso comunicativo de español I 

“Hablar por (el placer de) hablar” Level A2 - B1

Course specially designed to put into practice the knowledge of the language in a pleasant and safe environment for the foreign student who needs a practical Spanish in their day to day.

 

In the classes, grammar, vocabulary and socio-cultural contents are taught with a communicative approach, giving priority to oral interaction as a means and objective of learning the language.

Spanish II “Just Talking”

Curso comunicativo de español II

“Hablar por (el placer de) hablar” Level B1-B2

Course specially designed to put into practice the knowledge of the language in a pleasant and safe environment for the foreign student who wants to reach an upper-intermediate level of Spanish in their daily life.

 

In the classes, grammar, vocabulary and socio-cultural contents are worked on with a communicative approach, giving priority to oral interaction as a means and final objective of learning.

 

This course is the continuation of the ES-CONV01 course. The student must carry out a personal interview with the professor and / or an exam to guarantee the minimum level necessary for the completion of the course (B1).

Spanish III “Just Talking”

Curso comunicativo de español III

“Hablar por (el placer de) hablar” 

Level Advanced B2

Course specially designed to achieve the necessary competence to function fluently, express oneself fluently and naturally, so that communication is carried out without apparent effort and without interference.

 

During the course, the knowledge of the language is put into practice in a pleasant and safe environment for the student who needs to acquire an advanced level of Spanish. In the classes, grammar, vocabulary and socio-cultural contents are worked on with a communicative approach, giving priority to oral interaction as a means and final objective of learning.

 

This course is the continuation of the ES-CONV02 course. The student must carry out a personal interview with the teacher and / or an exam to guarantee the minimum level necessary for the completion of the course (B2).

Spanish Beginners

This course is aimed at students with no previous knowledge of Spanish or with basic knowledge. In this course, the basic fundamentals of the language are studied, working on all the skills to achieve a level that allows students to function in everyday life situations.

 

Special attention is given to the development of communicative skills. Students are also introduced to cultural aspects of the Hispanic world.

Spanish Beginners Level I (university program)

This entry-level course designed for students enrolled in the university program, is open to the entire educational community, to any student who wants to take a university-level course to learn the fundamentals of the language in a structured, fast and effective way.

 

All skills are covered: speaking, listening, reading, writing and Hispanic culture. Classroom practices and exercises are designed to develop the student's communicative competence and cultural sensitivity.

 

At the end of the course, students acquire a level A2.1 of the Common European Framework of Languages and can continue to develop their skills and competencies in courses SPN1121 and SPN2220 (ESP-UP2 and ESP-UP3)

Spanish Beginners Level II (university program)

Continuation of the SPN112O / ELE-UP1 course. This second entry-level course, designed for students enrolled in the university program, is open to the entire educational community and to any student who wants to take a university-level course to further develop basic skills in speaking, listening and understanding the Spanish language as well as perfecting skills in reading, writing and appreciation of Hispanic culture.

 

Classroom practice and exercises, complemented by laboratory and multimedia activities, are designed to improve students' communicative competence and cultural sensitivity to the Hispanic world.

 

These skills and concepts are further refined in the SPN2220 / ESP-UP3. Students are encouraged to integrate and participate in Spanish society. The target level of proficiency is B1 according to the Common European Framework of Reference for languages.

Intensive Summer Course L&C

(university program)

This course is a continuation of courses SPN1120 / ELE-UP1 and SPN 1121 / ELE-UP2 for students enrolled in the university, but it is open to other students after a personal interview with the teacher and / or exam to guarantee the level necessary for the realization of the same (B1).

 

The course deepens the student's linguistic abilities (reading, oral comprehension, oral expression and written expression) although its main objective is to reinforce communicative competence in the Spanish language, so the activities during the course are very participatory. In each class, special attention is paid to various cultural aspects of the Hispanic world, history, literature, art, music, etc.

Introduction to Spanish Art & Culture I (taught in Spanish) 

Course of introduction and appreciation to Spanish art and culture in which the most emblematic painting, sculpture and architecture of the Spanish territory and the most relevant artistic periods are studied. From the prehistoric painting of the Caves of Altamira to the Guernika of Picasso, as well as the masterpieces of El Greco, Velázquez or Goya.

 

From the Islamic architecture of the Alhambra in Granada to the de-constructivism of the Guggenheim Museum building. From Roman times and its infrastructures to Gaudí's Catalan Modernism.

 

The goal of the course is to familiarize students with the artistic manifestations of Spanish art and their fundamental characteristics and to develop their analytical skills to contextualize artistic works belonging to different genres and stages. The course is taught in the Spanish language and the discussion and participation of the students is encouraged during the classes.

Introduction to Spanish Art & Culture II (taught in Spanish) 

Continuation of Introduction to Spanish Art & Culture I ES-ART01 course.

 

The goal of this course is to familiarize students with the artistic manifestations of Spanish art and their fundamental characteristics and to develop their analytical skills to contextualize artistic works belonging to different genres and stages.

 

The course is taught in the Spanish language and the discussion and participation of the students is encouraged during the classes.
