Students talking. Choosing what and where to study has never been, and still isn't, an easy task. That's why today we want to talk about some of the advantages of the U.S. educational system.

Whether in secondary education (ESO and Bachillerato) or higher education, the U.S. system stands out for its flexibility and personalization, which lead to greater academic success and a lower risk of dropping out. This is one of the biggest and most important Advantages of the U.S. Educational System.

In the United States, the law requires students to receive a broad education and not focus on a specific specialization until their third year of college. This means they receive training in various areas and make decisions about their path based on real experience. As a result, they don’t have to determine their educational path at just 16 years old; instead, they have the freedom to decide as they progress, without wasting time or money.

Additionally, the U.S. system is based on continuous assessment, where students frequently submit assignments. This practical and short-term approach is motivating because of its dynamism, as students don't feel pressured by having their evaluation depend heavily on a single exam grade. It also allows them to see their progress, which in turn fuels their desire to keep doing well.

Another particularly interesting aspect of this system is that it does not require students to adapt to a pre-established, unchangeable curriculum. On the contrary, the system adapts to each individual’s abilities and academic goals (from secondary education to university), while still meeting the requirements set by current legislation to advance within the educational system.

This flexibility is also reflected in the accommodations provided to student-athletes who play sports at a semi-professional or professional level, such as adjustable class schedules to balance both commitments or permission to miss classes for sporting events without negatively affecting their grades. In the U.S., sports are just as important as academic education, to the point where there are numerous sports scholarships available for all types of sports. Scholarships are a key advantage of this system; they go beyond financial need, rewarding academic excellence and encouraging students to apply themselves and excel. All these factors and more make the U.S. educational system one of the best options for our children’s education.

The American College in Spain (ACS) is the first educational center in Andalusia to offer U.S. High School (ESO and Bachillerato) and University programs. Located in Marbella (Málaga), it provides a fully accredited American curriculum.

Students can complete their High School in Spain, earning a diploma equivalent to the ESO and Bachillerato, and then begin their first two years of university, completing the general education courses required by all U.S. universities. During these first two years, students are not required to choose their university major. This decision is made when starting the third year, with all the advantages that come with it.
